The problem: if viewers increasingly during the commercial breaks zap away or rewind through digital HD recorders over it, drop the incentives for advertisers, the TV stations a lot of money to pay for the granting of advertising space.
The solution: a Patent of Philips , the white preventing this: switch or coil during the commercial breaks is suppressed technically easy and impossible. Alternatively you can pay for the luxury of this freedom of advertising, of course.
Responses to this patent Philips had presented quite differently: both the media (ie mirror) and the blogosphere responded "not amused" As already shows the number of posts on this topic on Technorati (positive votes I have not found among them ...):
Once this has been so much written about (see also the link list below), only two to (further?) thoughts of mine:
- Although today * Philips said no concrete units * for it in planning, I consider it very likely that this technique will come. Of course not combined in such a clumsy, obvious anti-consumer and disabling form, but nicely packaged and with other "compelling" value-added services.
- From Rubirk "That's all there already" in the Catholic church was until not so long defined as a sin to leave the show during the sermon (about 50 years?). Other construction site, the same principle ...
Here is a selection of posts on the subject (complete and current as ever in Technorati ):
- " What TV man geldkuh must ": here, the potential impact of the patent, witty and critically further spun
- " Philips Patent: zapping prohibited ": shows how the beer brewers benefit from this trend ...
- " Wenn Technik über den Menschen herrscht. ": kauft sich einfach drei Fernseher... ;-)
